I absolutely love how much momentum the living sustainably movement is having of late. More and more people are demanding ways to live their best lives that don’t negatively impact on the lives of any other beings. And companies are popping up left, right and centre to meet that demand. Whether bedding or clothing, cleaning or beauty products, there’s an eco-friendly brand that can meet your high ethical standards. I’ve put together a bunch of my favorites that you can look to as you replace your old or worn out products with greener alternatives. Onwards!
So now we are aware of the drawbacks of fast fashion - whereby you buy something at bottom dollar, wear it twice then chuck it - there’s every reason to adjust your habits. The use of natural resources, such as water; the overuse of pesticides; the exploitation of local laborers; these are a few hints to nudge you in the right direction. Luckily, there are many, many ethical clothing brands around now, who put people and the planet over profit.
Etiko is an Australian company who makes vegan, sustainable clothing, underwear and footwear. Their fair-trade products (their entire line) are also made using organic cotton, meaning there are no pesticides leaching into the waterways near their farms. They ship to the US and also take back their shoes at the end of their useful life so that the soles can be recycled. Now, that’s cool!
Everlane is another great option for fashion that does good. They are completely transparent in their business practices, and you can learn about each one of their factories and how they’ve made sure they are run in an ethical, sustainable, and fair way. They pride themselves on their clothing being classic, timeless, and long-lasting. Their range is extensive too, so you can be sure you’ll find what you’re after! Find their stores in cities around the continental US.
Raven and Lily are not only Fair Trade certified, but are also B-Corp certified, meaning they are bound to consider the impact of business decisions on their workers, customers and the environment. Their line runs largely to stunning, ethically made jewelry and bags. Their artisans are women from all over the world who are paid fair wages to contribute, sustainably, to the brand. You can check out who makes what and where on their site The entire company is carbon neutral, as they pay for offsets. Oh, and the products they sell are gorgeous, of course!

The right choice, for your kitty and the earth.
The sheer number of brands out there who are now upping their game to meet the ethical standards of their customers (ahem, you!), is heartwarming. It was hard to narrow it down, as so many companies are truly doing their best to tread as lightly as possible on the planet. I’ve chosen you two that I love, that I’m sure you will too!
PHB Ethical Beauty is a name that you just can’t avoid when researching sustainable and eco-friendly beauty products. They carry a wide range, with cosmetics as well as perfumes and nail polish, and an entire skincare line. Their ingredients are organic, certified vegan, cruelty-free and not tested on animals. The business is also puts its money where its mouth is, donating 20% of annual profits to charities and causes that they believe in. This brand is UK-based and ships world-wide, using packaging that is a harm-free as possible.
Meow Meow Tweet is our other top pick in the eco-friendly beauty stakes. Everything about their company has been thought about and tailored to be as environmentally conscious as possible. From inception to shipping, sustainability is forefront in their business practices. They talk about making their products “as if they were modern culinary dishes”, with the same care and consideration as to how the ingredients come together. You’ll find more skincare and hygiene products here, rather than cosmetics. Meow Meow Tweet are US-based and have stores all over North America. Their products are all Leaping Bunny certified. Yass!
Your home should always be your haven. And now you can make sure the items in and around it also contribute to that feel-good factor, by ensuring they’re eco-friendly. The two brands below offer stylish and sustainable home furnishings and bedding for your environmentally conscious home decor decision-making!
Coyuchi is all about “sustainably sourced, ethically made” products that are beautiful as well as long-lasting. Their list of certifications is impressive and attests to their dedication to creating lines that are gentle on nature. They stock a wide range of bedding and home furnishing, and include baby products. I’m a fan of their fair-trade travel line too! Their stores are largely along the West Coast, though they ship all over, using their sustainable and FSC-certified plastic-free packaging.
Eskayel is based in New York and takes the long view. Each of their extremely aesthetically pleasing products is hand-designed and inspired by nature. The products themselves are then crafted in environmentally friendly ways, such as with water-based inks and sustainably-sourced materials. Their collection ranges from the big items, like carpets and wallpapers, to the finishing touches like baskets and throw-pillows. Not that I’m recommending furnishing your entire house through them… or am I?
It’ll be a great feeling to look around your home and know that your choices are the right ones for you and for the planet. These brands are just a few of the many out there doing their best to look after our collective mother, but they are some of the best. So now you can have your cake and eat it, or have your t-shirt and wear it (can you tell I’m enjoying myself here?). And by all means, make your bed and lie in it, since it’s made of sustainable materials now, after all!

Introducing TofuKitty litter
Hi, I’m Molly, an environmental ecologist and creator of TofuKitty. I created a new kind of litter that was made with you, your kitty, and the planet in mind. You shouldn’t have to choose between effective cat litter and making green choices. My litter is:
I’m an Environmental Ecologist and creator of TofuKitty! Like you, I wanted to make a difference for people and the planet (and of course, for kitties…I love kitties!). After becoming frustrated with the lack of easy, safe, earth-friendly litters, I decided to create my own. My litter is totally safe for the planet, your kitty, and you!
